COVID-19 Changes to Spirometry Services

Suspension of Spirometry Services within Sonic HealthPlus

When COVID-19 was first touted as a potential pandemic, our Chief Medical Officer and the Pandemic Preparedness Team (PPT) instituted a range of precautionary measures designed to reduce risk for our staff and clients associated with everyday clinical activities.

Given the fluidity of the current environment, this team reassesses our practices on a daily basis, balancing clinical necessity against staff and client safety.  Spirometry is one of the most frequently performed tests in Sonic HealthPlus clinics and a key clinical component of many medicals.  As a company, we have decided to observe the PPT’s recommendation today that we suspend spirometry services within Sonic HealthPlus, effective immediately.  We are of a view that the more we can eliminate risk at this time, the better it is for our people and our clients.

What does this mean for candidates?
Medicals that have a mandatory spirometry component (including legislative medicals such as QLD  Coal Board medicals), can still be completed without the spirometry component. The Sonic HealthPlus results management team will keep a record of all candidates that will require rebooking for the spirometry component at a later date.
