When change occurs in life, there are some people who have an Adaptive mindset and others who have a Rigid mindset. Those that are Adaptive are able to naturally recover from adversity and embrace change.

Those that have a Rigid mindset feel they have no control and blame outside forces for their losses or credit luck to their wins.

In general, those who adopt an Adaptive mindset have the ability to reflect, learn and grow in contrast with those who adopt a Rigid mindset, who struggle with change because they feel they have no control.

What are the benefits of an adaptive mindset?

Whether you have an adaptive mindset or not, research shows the applying that mindset can result in a happier, healthier, more successful you. Building on your resilience allows for you to not only ‘go with the flow’ but to seek out opportunities and grow with experience.

An Adaptive mindset has an acute impact on success in work and life and reduces stress.   Research also indicates that it can increase physical health, psychological wellbeing and an overall mood and satisfaction.

What happens if I mostly have a rigid mindset?

The good news is you can rewire your brain to become more Adaptive. No one will have an Adaptive mind all the time, however realising when we may be operating with a Rigid mindset gives us an opportunity to change.

The first step is realising your mindset isn’t helping. Changing the way you filter information and interpret world events. Paying more attention to positive events and opportunities rather than negative events and perceived threats.
