Dr Cleveland trained and studied a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in the UK, working in various roles including; Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Psychiatry and Surgery. Qualified as a GP, he then moved to Australia, gaining expertise in occupational medicine. Dr Cleveland began specialist training in Australia to become an Occupational and Environmental Medicine Physician.
Dr Cleveland is a Fellow of the Royal College of Australian General Practitioners (FRACGP) and a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). He is also an Advanced Trainee – Australian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (Royal Australian College of Physicians) and Registrar Representative on the Australian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) Federal Council of Australia & New Zealand.
His special interests include; Occupational & Environmental Medicine, Research into Dust-related Lung Diseases (Currently a clinical investigator/researcher with the Wesley Hospital Reseach Group looking into Black Lung (CWP)), Injury Management and Rehabilitation, Health Surveillance Programs – Dust-related, Hazardous Substances, Noise and Skin Cancer Medicine, Surgery and Dermoscopy
Dr Dawes graduated from Birmingham University in the UK before embarking on a general practice career in Worcestershire. In addition to his general practice work, he undertook work in Emergency Medicine and Occupational Medicine, obtaining a Diploma in Occupational Medicine in 1997.
Dr Dawes migrated with his family to Australia in 2004 and settled in Mackay. He attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2004 and became an Australian Citizen in 2006. He helped set up North Mackay Medical later to be renamed Occupational Health Alliance (now Sonic HealthPlus Mackay). He enjoys all aspects of general practice in addition to occupational medicine.
Dr Reyno Nieuwoudt graduated from South Africa’s University of Pretoria before embarking on a general practice career in Cape Town. In 2002, he and his wife immigrated to Australia and settled in Clermont where he worked in private practice and also as a medical superintendent of Clermont Hospital. Dr Nieuwoudt attained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practice in 2006 and joined Dr Scholtz in partnership in the newly formed Moranbah Medical (now Sonic HealthPlus Moranbah) in July 2008. Dr Nieuwoudt commenced with Sonic HealthPlus Mackay in April 2018. He has a commitment to lifetime learning and has been a teacher of medical students and a supervisor to junior doctors for over a decade.
In his spare time Dr Nieuwoudt enjoys spending time with his family, pursuing activities such as boating, bushwalking and photography. The family are keen travellers and look forward to seeing more of the beautiful Australian continent over the next few years.
Dr Rafeeq has been with Sonic HealthPlus for the last three years and has recently relocated from the Mount Isa Clinic. He is qualified with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS, AMC) and has an AHPRA General Registration. Dr Rafeeq is also a member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and the Rural Locum Relief Program (RLRP).
Prior to working with Sonic HealthPlus, Dr Rafeeq has worked at the Bundaberg Hospital, Mundubbera Hospital. He is experienced in occupational health, workplace injury management, skin checks, mental health, Chronic disease management and health care plans.
Alana is the Clinic Manager of Sonic HealthPlus Mackay. With over 15 years’ experience in management roles, Alana understands the challenges associated with medical practice management principles and the needs of the business. In her role as Clinic Manager, Alana develops and nurtures client relationships, while implementing strategies around the clinic’s management. Alana is experienced in areas such as business management & planning, client education, health & wellness, customer relations, account management and new business development.
Heather brings over 40 years’ nursing experience to Sonic HealthPlus Mackay where she commenced in mid-2017 after a stint with the organisation in 2015-2016. Heather completed her General Nurses Training in 1975 and has taken on a number of nursing jobs for a variety of employees over the years.
Heather has a particular interest in Diabetes, completing a Diabetes Educators Certificate in 2012 and being a member of Diabetes Queensland. Heather enjoys research and learning about new developments in her work. She likes to keep up to date with her nursing knowledge and skills and attends seminars and conferences whenever possible.
Alice has recently joined Sonic HealthPlus Mackay as Registered Nurse. Graduating with a Bachelor of Nursing degree, Alice worked in the Children’s Ward of The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane and at Lakeside Medical. Alice is a member of the Queensland Nursing Union and AHPRA and special interests include Paediatric nursing and child health.
