Occupational Health Services

Sonic HealthPlus Naval Base offers comprehensive occupational health services including:

Injury Management and Prevention
Injured workers have immediate access to a range of medical personnel to ensure an integrated and prompt recovery with optimal outcomes for both the employee and employer. Our doctors work alongside allied health professionals and are experts in treating and returning injured workers back to the workplace as soon as it is safe to do so.

Drug and Alcohol Testing
Drug and alcohol testing has been shown to improve productivity and help employers to support workers who struggle with substance abuse. Our collectors are NATA accredited to AS/NZS 4308:2008 standards for urine drug testing and collection.

Skin Screening
Our doctors are trained in the diagnosis and management of skin problems, including skin cancers. An initial appointment with one of our doctors is required prior to any treatment plan.

Travel Medicine
In partnership with one of Australia’s largest travel medicine providers, Travelvax, we can provide you and your workforce with a range of travel vaccinations, travel accessories and travel health plans.

Hearing Assessments
Hearing assessments are undertaken to evaluate the sensitivity of a patient’s sense of hearing. This assessment can be requested by an employer, during a health assessment or if there is a reason for concern. Hearing assessments aid our doctors in identifying any potential problem with a patient’s hearing and provide a baseline reading for workers on loud work sites.

Employment Medicals
Employment medicals are performed to ensure an employee is fit to work in a specific environment. This comprehensive medical ensures the employee can fulfil the requirements of the role and will identify and protect the employee from potentially harmful work environments.

Specialised Medicals
Our doctors have completed additional comprehensive training which allows them to perform specialised medicals including:

  • Aviation Medicals
  • Dive Medicals (Dr Dey)
  • Rail Authority Category 1 medicals
  • AMSA: Australian Maritime Safety Authority Medicals
  • OGUK: Oil & Gas UK offshore medicals (Dr Morar)

Health Surveillance
Health surveillance is the systematic approach to monitoring the health of an individual over time. Often a legal requirement in the workplace, health surveillance monitors exposure to noise, vibration, ionising radiation, solvents, fumes, dust, biological agents and other substances hazardous to an employee’s health.

Physiotherapy
Our in-clinic physiotherapist assists patients in the treatment and management of all occupational health injuries and ailments including workplace induced neck and shoulder pain, headaches, workplace injuries and other various body complaints. Our physiotherapist is skilled in musculoskeletal disorders and utilises massage, exercise, mobilisation and manipulation techniques to assist in pain management, treatment and injury rehabilitation.
