An Independent Medical Examination (IME) is an impartial, third party medical assessment of a worker's injury or illness. A report will determine the cause of injury, the level to which it is work related, the capacity for employment and the need for ongoing treatment.

An IME can be very useful in refocusing efforts to ensure the right decisions are being made and all parties are able to work towards the common goal of effective injury management.
