Dr Fitzgerald was raised in Tasmania and was originally going to become a pilot before he serendipitously became inspired by medicine. David now combines his two mutual passions of aviation and medicine when he can. After completing his medical degree, David trained in aviation medicine and started work as a civil aviation safety authority (CASA) medical examiner in Tasmania. David completed his Masters in Occupational Medicine and gained his AFOEM Fellowship to work at CASA as a Senior Medical Officer, a position he retained for over eight years. David completed his Masters in Health Law which facilitated his move to Dubai where he worked as an occupational physician with Emirates. David’s medical interests include fitness for duty assessments, aviation medicine, legal medicine, and medical education. He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Aviation and Occupational Medicine at the University of Otago and the Training Program Director for remote area Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) trainees. He is a committee member of; the Australasian Society of Aerospace Medicine, the training sub-committee of Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and the Continuing Professional Development lead of the Education Committee of AFOEM. David holds a commercial pilot’s licence, aerobatics and tail wheel endorsements, multi-engine command instrument rating and has owned a Shrike Commander.
Dr Ahmad is an experienced occupational health medical practitioner with over 18 years' experience in the occupational health sector in Canberra, Sydney, and overseas. After graduating from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, he spent the following years working in various hospital departments and as a rural and remote GP/senior medical advisor and aeromedical evacuation coordinator in West Papua. Whilst working at a Gold and Copper Mine Dr Ahmad developed an interest in occupational medicine – a field of medicine he continues within our clinic. Dr Ahmad has undergone postgraduate training in radiology, aviation medicine, and occupational and environmental medicine. Dr Ahmad has continued over many years to work part time Medical Officer in Canberra and NSW based hospitals.
Dr Salem completed her medicine degree in India in 2009 and worked as a GP in India for over two years before moving to Dubai. Whilst completing her residency in emergency medicine in Dubai, Dr Salem made the move to Australia and has since gained her AHPRA general registration. Dr Salem has worked as an emergency resident since 2015 and moved to Sonic HealthPlus to focus on occupational health in June 2016 where she brings her extensive clinical knowledge. Dr Salem is enjoying all aspects of occupational health particularly medicals as she gets to meet people in all walks of life.
Dr Cheah has worked as a medical adviser to Medibank Health Solutions and Sonic Health Plus, since 2010, advising on pre-employment medical assessment, injury treatment, and fitness for return to work and health assessment for visa purposes. She worked across a diverse range of industries, including local and national government, defence services, health services, police and corrective services, rail and mining industries, commercial licensing sectors etc.
She has wide experience in general medicine, having worked in the public hospital since 2002 to 2009, across most medical subspecialties including emergency medicine, general surgery and intensive care. She successfully completed the Basic Physicians Examination in 2006 prior to pursuing specialist training. However, Dr Cheah changed her interest pursuit to the area of Occupational Medicine in 2010. She had since worked across several occupational health clinics throughout the country, including Sydney and New Castle.
Dr Cheah is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine (ANZSOM) and participates in their annual scientific meeting.
Sruthi joined Sonic Healthplus Canberra in 2019. Originally from India, she worked as a Respiratory Physician in Bangalore before moving to Australia in 2013 along with her family.In Australia, Sruthi worked for a year at the Launceston General Hospital and then moved to Melbourne. She worked for a year as a Panel physician at Bupa Medical Visa services prior to moving
to Canberra. Since then she has developed interest in Occupational medicine while working at Sonic Healthplus and wishes to pursue further training in General practice/Occupational Medicine.
She loves spending quality time with her children. She also likes watching Indian movies and travelling with her family.
Dr Darren Parker currently works as an Occupation and Environmental physician. He completed his medical degree in 2012 having previously worked in medical research, as a journalist and as a marketing manager in the health industry. He is currently finishing a graduate Diploma in Occupation and Environmental Health at Monash University. Prior to working with Sonic, he was a medical registrar at the Canberra Hospital and also a Radiation Oncology doctor, before settling on his current career path. Dr Parker is keen to continue his practice as an occupational physician in Canberra and will be looking to conduct more research in this area, through Monash University.
Brad has lived in the Canberra region his whole life. He studied a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation at the University of Canberra and is a registered AEP. He is enjoying being a part of the Sonic team and particularly enjoys completing wellness health assessments and exercise prescription for clients recovering from injuries.
Chime is originally from Nigeria where she completed her medical degree and worked in a private hospital for 2 years before moving to Australia with her family in 2016. Chime completed a Master degree in Public Health with University of New South Wales in 2017 and enrolled into a degree in Nursing with Western Sydney University in 2018, graduated in December 2019 and gained her Ahpra registration as a Registered Nurse in January 2020. Chime moved to Canberra in March 2020 when she joined Sonic Health Plus and has been enjoying her role as a Registered Nurse, gained additional knowledge from other roles which she is involved in the clinic and meet people of diverse nationality daily.
Nathan is a qualified phlebotomist with a Certificate III in Pathology collection and over seven years of experience in the medical field as a pathology collector. He moved to Sonic Health Plus to broaden his scope of practice, particularly as a medical screener. Nathan is dedicated to being a lifelong learner, continually refining his skills and ensuring he is working with best current practices.
