Dr Stephen McNally
Dr Stephen McNally completed his MB ChB at the University of Pretoria in 1977 and his M Prax Med at the same university in 1984.
Before going into private practice, Stephen completed his internship in Durban’s Addington Hospital and then commenced a two-year military tour of duty with the SADF, working in various mission hospitals and in the operational area in the Namibian Caprivi Strip. He spent a further three years as the SMO of the Shongwe Hospital where he saw many cases of tropical diseases and was involved in patient care during two Cholera and one Malaria epidemic. It was during this time he researched the treatment of snake bites for the writing of his dissertation.
At the end of 1983 Dr McNally joined a private practice in Plettenberg Bay where he practiced as a family physician until 2006. During this stint Dr McNally completed a post graduate course in Palliative Care through the University of Cape Town.
Dr McNally left South Africa for Ireland where he practiced as a locum GP in numerous practices until moving to Australia in 2012.
Dr McNally joined Sonic HealthPlus in Karratha in 2012 as a general practitioner and in addition to patient consultations, performs medical assessments and is accredited in providing Australian Maritime Safety Authority, VISA, Disability Support Pension and Rail medicals. Dr McNally acts as preceptor to medical students from UWA and is a WAGPET supervisor to registrars.
In 2013 Dr McNally was awarded a fellowship with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine – FACRRM.
