We offer same day and/or walk in appointments for specific services, including injury management. A short wait time may be required for walk-in appointments, however our team will endeavour to see you as soon as possible.

Sonic HealthPlus Mackay is a holistic clinic offering occupational health, general practice and travel medicine services to the community of Mackay. With services tailored specifically to the patients we see daily, we endeavour to support the health and wellbeing of you, your family and your workforce.
We provide coal board medicals, injury management services, drug and alcohol testing, employment medicals, skin screening, travel medicine for corporate and families, men’s health, family medicine and immunisations.
Our clinic is also a Yellow Fever registered clinic and we are able to provide QFever immunisations services.
Our team of experienced healthcare professionals are committed to providing a reliable medical service which is comprehensive in both treatment and customer service.
Please ring (07) 4952 5100 for an appointment. Every effort will be made to accommodate your preferred time; however emergencies will be given priority.
Appointment times are approximately 10 minutes – please tell the reception staff if you require a longer appointment time.
Every effort is made to attend to walk in patients with an urgent matter. However in some instances, it will be requested that you make an appointment at a later date and time to accommodate your needs.

We take concerns, suggestions and complaints very seriously and will deal with any matters that come to us. All complaints will be followed up and in writing if requested.

Sonic HealthPlus Mackay is a private billing practice. All consultations are to be paid for on the day. We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard and Eftpos. The practice bulk bills children under 16 and concession holders at the doctor’s discretion. Should you be eligible, please bring your Medicare Card, Concession Card or Veterans Affairs card to each consult. Medical record requests have a fee attached.
The team at Sonic HealthPlus Mackay are experienced and passionate in their field of medicine. With dedicated teams of occupational health and general practice clinicians, we strive to provide a high quality service from a dedicated and supportive team.
Dr Cleveland trained and studied a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in the UK, working in various roles including; Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Psychiatry and Surgery. Qualified as a GP, he then moved to Australia, gaining expertise in occupational medicine. Dr Cleveland began specialist training in Australia to become an Occupational and Environmental Medicine Physician.
Dr Cleveland is a Fellow of the Royal College of Australian General Practitioners (FRACGP) and a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). He is also an Advanced Trainee – Australian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (Royal Australian College of Physicians) and Registrar Representative on the Australian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM) Federal Council of Australia & New Zealand.
His special interests include; Occupational & Environmental Medicine, Research into Dust-related Lung Diseases (Currently a clinical investigator/researcher with the Wesley Hospital Reseach Group looking into Black Lung (CWP)), Injury Management and Rehabilitation, Health Surveillance Programs – Dust-related, Hazardous Substances, Noise and Skin Cancer Medicine, Surgery and Dermoscopy
Dr Slater holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Sydney and has worked in various hospital roles in Cardiology, Surgery, Emergency, and Rehabilitation Medicine prior to undertaking further training in General Practice. He has an interest in public health and has completed a Master of International Public Health in 2019.
Dr Slater completed his specialist training in General Practice and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP). He worked as a General Practitioner in rural communities throughout New South Wales and Queensland before settling in Mackay where he has worked since early 2018. He has a particular interest in Occupational Medicine including workplace injury management and Health Surveillance. He is experienced in all aspects of general practice with particular interest in child and adolescent health, having completed a Diploma of Child Health from Westmead Hospital in Sydney.
Our skilled Medical Screening team work closely with our doctors and the clinic to ensure a professional and efficient service is provided to every client.
Our Coal Board Team members work closely with our clients, co-ordinating medical paperwork and onsite service requests.

Health surveillance is the systematic approach to monitoring the health of an individual over time. Often a legal requirement in the workplace, health surveillance monitors exposure to noise, vibration, ionising radiation, solvents, fumes, dust, biological agents and other substances hazardous to an employee’s health.
Injured workers have immediate access to a range of medical personnel to ensure an integrated and prompt recovery with optimal outcomes for both the employee and employer. Our doctor’s work alongside allied health professionals and are experts in treating and returning injured workers back to the workplace as soon as it is safe to do so.
Our team performs specialised and comprehensive musculoskeletal assessments to evaluate a patient's joints, bones and muscles and to test their function.
