Our Team

Our team at Sonic HealthPlus Melbourne CBD is comprised of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and administrative support staff.

While we all play widely different roles when it comes to delivering services, the one thing we all have in common is our passion for providing quality healthcare, in a reliable and trustworthy setting.

Dr Cecilia Phua

Medical Practitioner

Dr Phua completed her medical degree at Monash University (Clayton Campus) in 2010. She has worked in Monash Medical Centre, Ballarat Hospital and Goulburn Valley Hospital, gaining widespread experience in Emergency Medicine, General Medicine and Anaesthesia. She ventured into Occupational Medicine whilst looking for work-life balance and is passionate in assisting employees and employers in the return to work process. Dr Phua strives to work together with employees, employers and other stakeholders in realizing the health benefits of work.

Dr Yael Bodian

General Practitioner

Dr Bodian graduated University in 1973 with a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery. She then obtained a diploma in obstetrics and Gynaecology and her Fellowship in general practice.

Dr Bodian completed a rotating residency program including time at the Royal Children's hospital, Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital, Mercy Maternity Hospital and nine months in two general practices. She is a vocationally registered general practitioner and has been practicing in Melbourne CBD since 1978.

Dr Tanya Gabriel

General Practitioner

Dr Tanya Gabriel is a vocationally registered general practitioner with over 20 years experience in the field. She graduated in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1990 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery. She spent the following two years working in various hospital departments and as a general practitioner before moving to Melbourne. After gaining 12 months of hospital experience, she commenced work as a GP and remained with the same practice for 17 years. She is a Fellow of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Dr Virginia Li

Medical Practitioner

Dr Li graduated from The University of Melbourne in 2002. She gained her surgical experience working in cardiac surgery and completed basic surgical training under The Royal Australasian Collage of Surgeons in 2006.

While searching for a work-life balance, Dr Li developed an interest in occupational medicine. She is a member of The Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine (ANZSOM) and has been a CPD committee member of ANZSOM since 2012. Dr Li is a strong believer in the health benefits of work. Her areas of interest in occupational medicine are injury management, fitness for duties assessment and worksite visits. Dr Li also has a particular interest in assessing return to work in particular return to work post-surgery.

Dr Magdalena Simonis

General Practitioner
MBBS (Melb) FRACGP DRANZCOG

Dr Simonis is a GP with interests in community health, chronic disease prevention, women’s health, and men's health as well as practising shared antenatal care.

She is an examiner with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, teaches University of Melbourne Medical Students and is on the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Expert Committee for Quality Care.

Dr Simonis is an Honorary Research Fellow with the department of General Practice at the University of Melbourne, and has spearheaded research that has been published achieving international recognition.

She is on the board of Women’s Health Victoria, is President of the Victorian Medical Women’s Society, on the strategy and policy committee for Breast Cancer Network Australia and is on the board of National Hearing Heath Advisory board Australia.

Her articles are regularly published in Yours magazine, Girlfriend, Women’s Health, Medical Republic and she is has been an RACGP representative to senate enquiries.

Kerryn Mason

Practice Manager

Kerryn comes from a science background with many years’ experience in management. Kerryn has extensive experience within the medical industry through her positions as our receptionist, medical screener, and now clinic manager. Kerryn has been with Sonic HealthPlus for three years and places a strong emphasis on customer service and providing high quality healthcare.

Siobhan Turnbull

Registered Nurse

Siobhan has worked for Sonic HealthPlus since 2017, and is the Melbourne CBD Clinic Registered Nurse. Before joing the clinic, Siobhan worked with the Site Services team and at Sonic HealthPlus Flagstaff as a Nurse and Occupational Medical Screener. Siobhan graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from Deakin University in 2016.

Siobhan performs all nursing duties including wound management, vaccinations and pathology, as well as following up all patient reminders and results. Siobhan also has experience in performing pre-employment medicals and ECGs.
